“Thumbing A Ride”
(Photo Uploaded By Alan Cutts)
Today’s photos are of students “thumbing a ride” outside of Sikes Hall, a Clemson tradition for over 40 years.
The above picture was taken in the late ‘40’s and shows some spiffy Cadets looking for a ride on the weekend back to their hometown.
The next picture was from the 1960’s and shows some Clemson students doing the exact same thing as their peers from the 1940’s.
You can see that by the 1960’s, a sign system had been created to sort the students outside of Sikes for ease of drivers who were willing to pick up students if they were going somewhere near where the driver was heading.
