Clemson Bookstore (Part II)
(Photos Uploaded By Alan Cutts)
Today’s photos are Part II of photos from the Clemson Bookstore, located under Harcombe until 2001.
One of the interesting things about the entire book buy process is that rumors always floated that professors received “kickbacks” from the book companies for having a book part of the required materials for their classes.
Whether or not professors received the kickbacks, the book buying process involved inflated prices and mini-monopolies on students. In the 60’s and 70’s, there was no other way to get a textbook than to purchase it from the Clemson Bookstore.
Today, students can buy directly from textbook companies, use Amazon, or buy and sell books from each other on a variety of web sites. Soon, paper textbooks will not even exist.
Times have surely changed in the textbook business.
