21 Days! Dark Territory Clemson Letterman Photo Of The Day-Javis Austin

21 Days Until Kickoff!
Dark Territory Clemson Letterman Photo Of The Day
Javis Austin

Javis Austin lettered for Clemson in 1998 and 1999.
Austin’s career will best be remembered via tragedy.   Austin was admitted to the neuro-intensive care unit of the Anderson Area Regional Medical Center after attempting suicide after a frustrating end to the 1999 season.
Austin was 21 at the time and was a junior two-time letterman for Clemson. He started the first two games of the 1999 season and had his best game in the opener against Marshall.

Austin played in only three of the past eight games. He has had 36 carries for 120 yards in five games this season.

Austin was the state's top high school running back in 1997 with 2,389 yards and 32 touchdowns in his senior season at D.W. Daniel High School in Central. His career rushing total at Daniel was 5,088 yards.
For a great read on Austin’s entire story, including his remarkable recovery and return to education, read the linked article below from Bob Gillespie of The State newspaper.
