Former Tiger Legend Jim Bundren Set To Co-Host Tiger Pregame Show For Georgia Game

With kickoff now 14 days away, final preparations for the 130th broadcast of the Tiger Pregame Show is underway.

Scott Rhymer, in his 11th year as host of the show, will team up with Mark Sturgis to bring Tiger fans everything they need each week to prepare for the upcoming game.

This year, Scott and Mark will team up with a former Clemson player to create a 3 man booth for the show.  Southern First Bank will sponsor the "Legends of the Valley" co host.

Former Tiger offensive lineman Jim Bundren is scheduled to serve as the Clemson legend for the season opener vs. Georgia on August 31st.  Bundren was an All-ACC offensive guard for Clemson from 1994-1997.  Bundren started 47 games for the Tigers in his career, a Clemson record at the time.

Bundren was named 2nd team All-American by Football News and 3rd team AP All-American.  Bundren played 5 years in the NFL before a knee injury ended his career.

In addition to Bundren, other former Tiger greats are being scheduled for the rest of the season.  In addition to Bundren, Ray Williams, Billy Davis, and Reggie Merriweather are scheduled to serve as Southern First's Legends of the Valley in upcoming games this season.  Additional former players will be announced as the season draws closer.

The Tiger Pregame Show, a mainstay for Clemson fans on game day, will broadcast its 130th consecutive show when longtime rival Georgia enters Death Valley on August 31st beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Mark Sturgis will join Tiger Pregame Show founder Scott Rhymer as co-host of WCCP’s popular Tiger Pregame Show as it enters its 11th year on the air this fall on the flagship station for Clemson Sports, WCCP 104.9 FM.

The show’s 11th season will have plenty of new twists and formats, nodding to the history and heritage of the show while pushing the show into an innovative and interactive new radio format.

In addition to the weekly special Clemson guest-host, the Tiger Pregame Show is also moving locations to provide fans with a more interactive experience at home games.   WCCP and The Tiger Pregame Show are proud to announce a partnership with Mellow Mushroom in Clemson, across from the Hoke Sloan Tennis Complex, where the broadcast will take place each home game.  Miller Lite and Coors Light will provide sponsorship, dubbed the “Tailgate At Mello”.

Special drink and food specials will be available, and the entire parking lot area at Mello Mushroom will turn into a broadcast location for fans to listen and interact with the show and co-hosts.

Broadcast locations for away games will be announced in the coming days and weeks.  The Tiger Pregame Show for the Thursday Night game against NC State on September 19th will take place at Twin Peaks in Greenville, SC.

The Tiger Pregame Show format will continue broadcasting 6 hours prior to kickoff and go off the air 3 hours prior to kickoff and will continue to offer in-depth analysis of the upcoming game.  The season opener, however, will be a 4 hour special, beginning at 1:00 p.m. from Mellow Mushroom.

Joining Rhymer in Year 11 is Mark Sturgis, host of “Straight Up With Sturg” on WCCP 104.9 FM from 7-9 weekdays.  Mark has been with WCCP for the last four years and formerly owned The Score Sports Radio Show, which included working for “The Opening Drive” when it was WCCP's syndicated morning show.

One of the great things about football season is that it offers the opportunity to welcome people to Clemson (either for the first time or after a long time away).

At Clemson, we believe that we have something special and are excited to showcase that special college football environment each time we host a visitor.  Our goal  is very simple:  To be incredible hosts to our visitors and provide the ultimate game day experience.

There is an additional buzz in the air for Week 2 at Clemson, as we host the the Auburn Tigers and their fans for what should be an electric game day weekend with two Top 15 football teams in an ACC vs. SEC match-up in prime time!  We hope that your trip here will be exciting, memo…

Construction Of The North Upper Deck In 1983

(Photos Uploaded By Alan Cutts)
Today’s photos are a series of shots during the construction of the North Upper Deck in 1983.

The North Upper Deck is comprised of 22,500 yards of concrete, 2,200 Tons of reinforcing steel, 3,000 tons of asphalt, 5,800 gallons of paint, and 60,000 pounds of aluminum seating

The North Upper Deck height is 13.36 stories and the length is 560 feet. The total cost of the North Upper Deck was $13.5 million

To illustrate the quality of the investment of the upper deck.  The $13.5 million dollar investment is recovered in just 3 years (7 home games per year) in ticket sales.  Each game Clemson sells out the North Upper Deck, over $600,000 goes towards Clemson Athletics.

The North Upper Deck is slightly larger than the South Upper Deck. The reason for this is simple. Engineers had more room to build behind the North Upper Deck than they did behind the South Upper Deck (with Cemetery Hill behind the South). This al…
