The Tiger Pregame Show Gears Up For 11th Year On Air!

The Tiger Pregame Show, a mainstay for Clemson fans on game day, will broadcast its 130th consecutive show when longtime rival Georgia enters Death Valley on August 31st beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Mark Sturgis will join Tiger Pregame Show founder Scott Rhymer as co-host of WCCP’s popular Tiger Pregame Show as it enters its 11th year on the air this fall on the flagship station for Clemson Sports, WCCP 104.9 FM.

The show’s 11th season will have plenty of new twists and formats, nodding to the history and heritage of the show while pushing the show into an innovative and interactive new radio format.

“Chris Downey (WCCP General Manager) and I have been discussing the format of the show for 3 years now”, Rhymer stated recently.
Scott Rhymer
“We both were interested in pushing the show beyond what we have done in the past; really separating our show from anything else in pregame college football on the radio.”

Not only will the show have a new co-host in Mark Sturgis, the show will also continue to tap into the great history of Clemson’s football program and personalities.

“Willy Korn is now coaching and could not return to the show, but his presence last year as a former player really clicked with the fans”, Rhymer said.  “So we decided to make that a staple of the program; bringing back former players to guest host with Mark and me.”

Each week, the show will have a third host in addition to Rhymer and Sturgis. This third host will be a former Clemson player or coach that will give their own unique analysis of the game, including game day picks from around the country and of the Clemson game.
“Broadcasters sometimes get tunnel vision in analyzing games,” Rhymer feels.  “Sometimes it takes someone who has lived in those shoes and in those trenches to really encompass what is going on inside the head of the players and coaches leading up to a game.”

Already scheduled to join the Tiger Pregame Show are former Tiger greats Jim Bundren, Ray Williams, Billy Davis, and Reggie Merriweather. Additional former players will be announced as the season draws closer.

In addition to the weekly special Clemson guest-host, the Tiger Pregame Show is also moving locations to provide fans with a more interactive experience at home games.   WCCP and The Tiger Pregame Show are proud to announce a partnership with Mellow Mushroom in Clemson, across from the Hoke Sloan Tennis Complex, where the broadcast will take place each home game.  Miller Lite and Coors Light will provide sponsorship, dubbed the “Tailgate At Mello”.

Special drink and food specials will be available, and the entire parking lot area at Mello Mushroom will turn into a broadcast location for fans to listen and interact with the show and co-hosts.

Broadcast locations for away games will be announced in the coming days and weeks.  The Tiger Pregame Show for the Thursday Night game against NC State on September 19th will take place at Twin Peaks in Greenville, SC.

The Tiger Pregame Show format will continue broadcasting 6 hours prior to kickoff and go off the air 3 hours prior to kickoff and will continue to offer in-depth analysis of the upcoming game.  The season opener, however, will be a 4 hour special, beginning at 1:00 p.m. from Mellow Mushroom.

“Our business model, from the very beginning, has been to focus on the football game and the analysis of what to expect when you walk into the stadium”, Rhymer stated. “Clemson fans, especially those that are tailgating or en route to the stadium when we are on the air, want a pregame show that breaks down the football game and the X’s and O’s. And that is exactly what we try to give them for the three hours we are on the air.”

Joining Rhymer in Year 11 is Mark Sturgis, host of “Straight Up With Sturg” on WCCP 104.9 FM from 7-9 weekdays.  Mark has been with WCCP for the last four years and formerly owned The Score Sports Radio Show, which included working for “The Opening Drive” when it was WCCP's syndicated morning show.

“It’s an honor and a privilege to join an established broadcast like the Tiger Pre-Game Show, Sturgis recently stated.  “I would like to thank Scott and Chris Downey, General Manager at WCCP, for the opportunity.”
